Angus and Gary will contest the first Springwell Cup Final after coming through two very different paths to the season’s showpiece match.
Angus began his cup campaign with victory over Chalkey before defeating Dean S in the quarter-finals. Cup-only entrant Jason stood between him and the final, but Angus came through the semi-final to secure his place.
Gary’s journey started against Alan. He then faced one of the competition’s biggest tests in the quarter-finals, defeating Duane before overcoming Jon G in the last four.
Neither finalist has lost a match in the competition, but their league campaigns provide an interesting contrast ahead of the final.
Gary currently leads the DDL League with 49 points from 21 matches. His recent form has been particularly strong, with four victories from his last five league games. Wins over Alan, Jon G, Adam and Adrian were interrupted only by defeat against Scott.
Angus sits sixth with 33 points from 19 matches. His last five league games have produced three wins and two defeats, including victories against Adrian and Duane. Losses to John L and Duncan show that Angus can be beaten—but his cup performances have demonstrated an ability to deliver when elimination is on the line.
Gary will enter the final as the league leader, but Angus has already eliminated Chalkey, Dean S and Jason. With no second chance and no league points involved, their positions in the table may count for very little.
The Springwell Cup Final is confirmed for Friday 30 October 2026.
One match remains. Angus or Gary will become the first player to lift the Springwell Cup.
